From Friday the 26th of May to Saturday the 17th of June once again Vivid Sydney is back, now as the biggest event of its kind worldwide! 

Better and bigger than ever, the 3D light projections will light up our beautiful city converting it into a magnificent exhibition of creativity. The lights will be on every night from 6pm to 11pm, giving the city an amazing display of colors, as well as holding a festival of local and international music, sculptures, public talks, and debates from leading creative thinkers from around the world.The Royal Botanic Gardens has become a very popular venue hosting large scale displays last year, and you won't be disappointed. The event achieved a new bench mark last year with an attendance of 2.31 million people (up by 35.4% from 1.7 million in 2015). Experience a fabulous winter with lights & colours in Sydney.

Sydney Royal Easter Show 2017

It is not long for the Easter celebrations to take place,  with Good Friday being on the 18th of April .

On Good Friday all shops will be closed, it is the only day of the year when newspapers are not available.

During Easter we also have the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Australia’s largest annual event which attracts close to 900,000 people each year! 

The Sydney Royal Easter Show is a national icon which was first held in 1823 to promote and rewards agricultural excellence, celebrates all that is Australian, from our bush heritage to the latest entertainment and technology.

The show runs from the 10th of April for 2 weeks. There will be lots and lots of cattle, horses, sheep, chickens, flowers, vegetables, fruits, pies & jams, cheese & wine, spices & herbs, oysters & prawns, arts & crafts….. The best of the best sourced out from all over the country will be there for you to experience.

Popular entertainment such as pet farm for children, the parade, rodeos, wood-chipping competitions, cattle dog skill challenge, cooking / fishing / tools demonstrations ….. There will be everything for everybody!

P.S. Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (a.k.a. Will & Kate) will visit the show on the 18th during their Royal visit to Australia!

Christmas in Sydney

Have you ever experienced Christmas in Summer? If you are the lucky one to visit Sydney during Christmas season, why not  go city sightseeing with tthe theme.

Sydney's favourite Christmas trees are;
@ Martin Place, 20m tall! Beautifully decorated with hundreds of LED lights. Touch Pad Kiosk allows you to interact and control coulour settings of the tree decorations. You also can send your own christmas messages up its branches by texting from your mobile! 

@ Queen Victoria Building, 24m tall (Ground floor to 2nd floor), covered with 60,000 lights and 144,000 Swarovski Christal ornaments. Start form the trunk at the ground floor level, then climb all the way up to see the star on the top of the tree! (Do not forget to admire the historical architecture of Queen Victoria Building itself and its artefacts, including Queen Elizabeth the II's letter to the citizens of Sydney as well as the clocks.)

Tall outdoor tree decorations can be found in other locations such as Hyde Park North or Governors House.

@ Pitt Street Mall, in front of Westfield, a NEW Christmas Sleigh appears made entirely with LEGO blocks, using over 10,000 pieces of them!! There are many shining Christmas trees floating in the air all the way through Pitt Street Mall after dark, as part of "Christmas Light Forest" installation, together with digital projections on the buildings.

@ Darling Harbour, a modern tree decorated with lots of lights can be found at the Convention Centre Courtyard. There is a NEW Floating Christmas Tree suspended in the air @ Palm Grove as well! Carols is on everynight at various locations around Darling Harbour, Palm Cove & Cockle Bay throughout December. For the event detail, please refer to the other post titled "Sydney's Christmas in Summer!"

And we should not forget David Jones's window decorations on Elizabeth Street! Each of the six windows on the Elizabeth Street Store are filled with different carols with puppets singing, sharing warm wonderful christmas spirit with all the viewers young and old. (Window display will be on up to the 25 december.) Also do not miss the Magic Cave on the 6th floor in Elizabeth Street Store, to see Santa and the elves working hard preparing the presents for the children. (Open everyday till 24 December). It is a great place to find Chrissy Souvenir as well.

Walking around the City you will find lots of Christmas decorations in a very Australian style, in shops and restaurants. If you visit the suburbs, you can find some magnificently dressed up homes with wonderful luminous decorations brighting up the streets. You might also meet Santa Clause riding his surf board in his summer gear!

It is a great season to go sightseeing!

Sydney Art & About 2016

The city of Sydney becomes a giant art gallery for public!

A great scale public art event organized by the City of Sydney called "Art & About" is coming back to town. There will be lots of interesting outdoor installations in and around the City, various exhibitionis and workshops will be held in numerous locations for three weeks.

Enjoy a day out spotting something different that appear in street corners and on building or trees, or walk through lines of photos showcasing Australian everyday life hung among spring blossoms! It is an exhibition for everybody. Have a walk around town and see how many you can spot.

The free program is available in some locations.

DATES: From Thursday 15-September to Sunday 9-October 2016.

VENUES: Various places in Hyde Park & Sydney CBD.

Ice skating @ Bondi Beach

Sydney Festival 2015

The popular Sydney Festival is back in town. It runs from the 8th to the 26th of January, and as always it will be packed with exciting events with around 300 performances,100 events & over 1000 artists.

Theatre, live concerts, dance, exhibitions, opera, installations, etc,etc... All kinds of arts from all over the world get together in Sydney. Some of Sydney's popular restaurants will serve special lunch & dinner packages during the festival.

Fantastic fireworks every Saturday from 21:00, and carols take places in various locations untill Christmas Day. There is a NEW floating Christmas tree suspended in the air (!) to be spotted in Palm Cove, together with some fun activities such as Paddle Boat Rides (tickets available for purchase) around floating Santas in Cockle Bay, and Christmas Movie Nights Under the Stars (Fridays & Saturdays) at Village Green throughout December. Melbourne Cup 2014!

Melbourne Cup fever is here again. This is one of the most anticipated events in the country, and one of the best regarded thoroughbred races in the world, stopping a whole nation to watch its main race (Group 1), which takes place at 3pm on the first Tuesday of November every year. This year it will be held on the 4th of November.

This event started in 1861 becoming one of the most significant events in the Australian social and sporting culture. Everybody wants to participate in one way or another, whether it is at work, the pub, the race course, everywhere, it is a national event with betting taking place throughout the whole country. Today with its prize money & trophies, it makes it one of the richest horse races in the world.

Socialites, politicians and Australia's rich and famous attend the Cup. This is a carnival where people love to show off their fashion, from the elegant to the ridiculous, all in good spirit.

Through time there have been a number of champion horses thrilling the spectators with their achievements, as well as with stories of endurance, controversy, tragedy, scandals and heroism. A good example is Black Caviar, an Australian mare who was named the Wold Champion Sprinter in 2010, 2011 & 2012, with a success record not equalled for over 100 years. She retired on 13th of April 2013 undefeated after winning 25 races.

The Melbourne Cup is all about racing, betting, fashion, bubblies and partying.

Australia Day 2014

The country’s biggest celebration of the year. Australia day which is celebrated on the 26th of January, is the anniversary of Captain Arthur Phillip’s arrival with the First Fleet of 11 convicts ships from Great Britain at Sydney Cove, who with the raising of the British flag marked what was to become a great nation. This day celebrates all what has been achieved and made us proud as a nation, and helps us to think on how we can make it an even better place for the new generations to come.
There will be events taking place all throughout the country, with many attending organised community events, and others getting together with familiy and friends but all with the same purpose, to celebrate all whats good about Australia & being an Australian, a united nation that strives to better itself.
In New South Wales alone, there will be over 5000 events taking place.

Good Food Month Sydney 2013

Spring has arrived to Sydney and with the biggest Australian food festival being renewed and returned as “The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Month”.

More than 100 flavours from around the world will get together in numerous locations in Sydney City & suburbs, including Hyde Park. Lots of food stalls will line up to cater traditional & signature  food from around the world, while many restaurants provide special menus, cocktails, or dining packages to show case what Australia is made of, and embrace what we have.

The gastronomic culture of Australia has been influenced by immigrants with colourful backgrounds and produced a new peculiar trend. This would be a great opportunity for you to experience rare cuisine from around the world, to the latest of the modern Australian.

You will find South American food in Fairfield, Chinese & Asian in “Little Shanghai” Ashfield, Italian in Haberfield, Korean  in Strathfield, and visit Parramatta for BBQ feast.
